πŸ“

1. Introduction & Governance

As with most Indiana youth soccer leagues, Portage Youth Soccer Club, Inc. (PSC) follows a clear set of rules, policies, requirements, and bylaws. These guidelines are approved by our Board of Directors and are based on standards established by our affiliated Northwest Indiana soccer league.

Our mission is to provide a safe, structured, and enjoyable environment for children to develop their soccer skills, build character, and learn teamworkβ€”while maintaining consistency with recognized state and regional youth soccer organizations.

2. Club Bylaws and Eligibility

From youth soccer eligibility requirements to the operating bylaws and constitution of the club, PSC upholds the standards defined in its organizational bylaws.

These documents outline:

  • Eligibility rules for participation in our programs
  • Operational structure of the club and board
  • Player registration procedures and membership requirements

3. League Affiliations

The foundational rules and policies that guide PSC adhere to the standards set by:

PSC competes regularly against other youth soccer teams within NWISL. All clubs participating in the league operate under similar rules, policies, and bylaws. This ensures fair competition and a consistent playing environment across Northwest Indiana.

4. Player & Coach Behavior Policy

PSC expects all players to conduct themselves in a respectful and responsible manner at practices, games, and club events.

Player Expectations

  • Arrive at practices and games on time and prepared to play
  • Listen to coaches’ instructions and demonstrate good sportsmanship
  • Treat teammates, opponents, officials, and coaches with respect

Disruptive or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated. Such behavior can interfere with team development and the positive environment we strive to create.

Coach Expectations

Our volunteer coaches dedicate their time and energy to support their teams. Coaches should not be expected to tolerate inappropriate conduct. They are encouraged to address issues promptly and fairly.

5. Parent & Spectator Expectations

Parents and spectators play a crucial role in maintaining a positive game-day atmosphere. We ask that all parents:

  • Model good sportsmanship
  • Cheer for effort and teamwork, not just results
  • Refrain from negative comments toward players, referees, or opposing teams
  • Allow coaches to coach and referees to officiate

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in a warning or removal from the field for the remainder of the game.

6. Disciplinary Process

If a behavior issue arises, PSC follows a progressive disciplinary process:

  1. Coach Intervention – The coach will address the issue directly with the player and, if necessary, their parents.
  2. Club President Review – If the issue continues, the President will become involved.
  3. Board Review – Serious or repeated issues may be referred to the PSC Board of Directors for disciplinary action.

Possible Disciplinary Actions:

  • Verbal or written warning
  • Suspension from one or more practices and/or games
  • Season suspension
  • Permanent revocation of membership

⚠️ Please note: No payments will be refunded as a result of disciplinary action.

7. Refund Policy

PSC operates on a not-for-profit basis, and fees go toward field maintenance, league fees, uniforms, and administrative costs. Therefore, no refunds will be issued for suspensions, expulsions, or voluntary withdrawals after the start of the season.
